Caterpillar Gaps Lower, Ether Loses $2,600, Raydium Reaches a One-Year High
Three theoretical setups for October 8: Caterpillar after its worst day since July, ether after breaking a two-week floor, and Raydium after its highest close since October 2025.
CAT · Caterpillar — Bearish, Short-term (days). Caterpillar fell 5.75% on October 7 to $813.83, its worst day since July 29, as the 30-year Treasury yield touched its highest level since 2002 and the FTC and USDA opened an inquiry into the farm-equipment market that also hit Deere, AGCO and CNH. The stock opened at $846, below the previous day's low of about $851, and never filled that gap, erasing its entire rally since October 1. Theoretically, an unfilled gap down on a sector-wide selloff favours further weakness toward the $800-$802 area (round number and October 1 low), and then the mid-September lows near $773-$777, while CAT stays below the gap; a daily close above $846 would invalidate the setup. The stock is already down about 24% from its June 30 closing high of $1,064.90, and any drop in long-term yields could trigger a sharp rebound across industrials.
ETH/USD · Ethereum — Bearish, Short-term (days). ETH fell 4.57% on October 7 to $2,574.14, its lowest close since September 17, after touching $2,538.06. That broke the $2,600 area, which had held every daily low from September 21 to October 6, and ether fell almost twice as much as bitcoin on the day. Theoretically, a broken floor tends to act as resistance, favouring a test of the $2,500 round number and then the September 18 low of $2,436.89 while ETH stays below $2,624, the high of the October 7 morning bounce; a daily close above that level would invalidate the setup. The first leg lower came on heavy volume overnight, but the daytime decline was on ordinary volume, so selling pressure may already be easing. Watch bitcoin's September 21 breakout area near $80,850-$81,200: a bounce there would likely lift ether too.
RAY/USD · Raydium — Bullish, Short-term (days). RAY rose 12.56% on October 7 to $2.4678, its highest close since October 9, 2025, after touching $2.5729, on $29.4 million of volume, about 2.6 times its 30-day average. The move came as buying rotated among Solana exchange tokens — Meteora's MET rose 35.8% on the same day — and it held most of its gain into the close despite Solana itself falling 3.65%. Theoretically, a close at a one-year high favours continuation toward the $2.70 area, RAY's last close before the October 10, 2025 crash, while it holds above $2.19, where the October 7 breakout began; a daily close below that level would invalidate the setup. The risk is the rotation itself: Orca, the previous leader, fell 10.6% on the day after its run ended, and a broader Solana selloff would weigh on all of these tokens.
