Stocks Clear Their August Ceiling, Bitcoin Fails Below $87,000 Again, Mina Keeps Sliding

Three theoretical setups for October 7: the S&P 500 after its first record close in seven weeks, bitcoin after another rejection and an overnight drop to $83,577, and Mina Protocol after a 24% day.

SPY · S&P 500 ETF — Bullish, Swing (1-4 weeks). The S&P 500 closed at a record 7,818.93 on October 6, clearing the August 13 record of 7,798.99 that had capped it for seven weeks; SPY closed at $779.09. The VIX finished at 15.01, its lowest since September 25, and the 10-year Treasury yield eased to 5.27% from Monday's 24-year high of 5.31%. Theoretically, a breakout to a new record after a long consolidation favours continuation while the old ceiling holds as support, so the setup remains valid while the index stays above 7,727.59, Monday's low (around $770 on SPY); a daily close below it would invalidate it. Breadth is the weak spot: the Russell 2000 fell 0.59% on the same day, and a rally led by a narrow group of large companies is more fragile. A renewed jump in yields above 5.35% is the main macro risk.

BTC/USD · Bitcoin — Bearish, Short-term (days). BTC peaked at $86,698.99 on October 6, a lower high than Monday's $86,999 and another failure below the $87,220-$87,400 zone that has capped it since late September. Early on October 7 it fell to $83,577, its lowest since October 1, with $121.6 million traded in a single fifteen-minute candle, while ether dropped to its lowest since September 20. The move came on the same day US stocks set records, which suggests crypto-specific selling rather than a broad risk-off mood. Theoretically, the sequence of lower highs favours a test of the October 1 low of $83,186 while BTC stays below $86,700; a daily close above that level would invalidate the setup. The range has held for two weeks and short-term swings in both directions have been sharp, so a quick squeeze back toward $86,000 is a real possibility.

MINA/USD · Mina Protocol — Bearish, Short-term (days). MINA printed a bearish outside reversal on October 5 — a new 2026 high of $0.1714 followed by a close at $0.1492, below the previous day's low — and then fell 23.66% on October 6 to $0.1139 on $12.1 million of volume, about four times its 30-day average. Early on October 7 it reached $0.1012, about 41% below the peak, with almost every hour since the high closing lower. Theoretically, the trend favours further weakness while daily closes stay below $0.1252, the highest price of the October 6 evening bounce; a close above it would invalidate the setup. The $0.10 round number is the first reference below, then the mid-September area near $0.08. After a 41% fall in two days, MINA is deeply oversold, so sharp relief bounces are likely even if the trend stays down.
