The TRUMP Memecoin Loses 40% While the Market Rallies (September 2026)
After spiking to $3.07 on August 29, 2026, the TRUMP memecoin slid for more than two weeks to $1.85 — a 40% drop — just as almost everything else in crypto was rising. A lesson in relative weakness.
At the end of August 2026 the TRUMP memecoin had one of its more heated moments: over four sessions it climbed from about $2.17 to an intraday high of $3.068 on August 29, on volume that reached $119.5 million on the 28th. But by the 29th the candle was already closing red, well off its high, and on August 30 the first serious blow landed: down 12.5% to $2.34.
From there the move was a stepwise decline. A 7.9% bounce on September 3 stalled at $2.52, below the level where the drop had started. On September 9 the token lost 8.9% to $2.03, and on the 15th it touched a low of $1.847 — about 40% below the peak of two and a half weeks earlier. Volume, meanwhile, had dried up, from $119 million at the August peak to days of $7-20 million.
What makes the episode instructive is the backdrop. September 2026 was a month in which nearly every large crypto asset rose, many by double or triple digits; TRUMP finished the month down 15.3%, one of only two decliners among 49 tracked. A memecoin lives on attention, and when the attention moves elsewhere, the market's rising tide is not enough to hold it up. This hourly chart shows the typical signature of relative weakness: every bounce stops below the one before, and volume fades instead of returning.
