The TRUMP Memecoin's Five-Hour Double (August 2026)
In the early hours of August 22, 2026, the TRUMP memecoin went from $1.85 to $3.68 in five hours on $291 million of trading — then closed the day 35% below the high. A textbook blow-off, and everything that came after.
TRUMP, the memecoin launched in January 2025 and associated with Donald Trump, spent mid-August 2026 drifting around $1.40 on Binance, trading about $2-5 million a day — a long way below the levels of its first weeks. This replay begins on August 18, while it was still quiet.
The first signs came on August 19, when the token rose 27% in a day, mostly in the evening hours (UTC), to close at $1.79. It gave back 8% on August 20 and recovered 13% on August 21, with daily volume stepping up to around $35 million. Nothing so far had prepared the chart for what came next.
Shortly after midnight UTC on August 22, TRUMP went vertical. The 02:00 hour added 13%, the 03:00 hour 24% and the 04:00 hour another 17.5%; in the 05:00 hour it touched $3.68, about 99% above the day's low of $1.85, set in its first hour. That same hour closed at $2.99, and the selling kept coming in bursts: down 7.8% in the 09:00 hour, 7.7% in the 12:00 hour, 7.0% in the 21:00 hour. The day ended at $2.38, 35% below the high, after $291 million of trading — more than eighty times the daily average of the previous week and a half.
The aftermath is what makes this a volatility scenario rather than a simple spike. TRUMP rallied back to $2.94 on August 23, fell to $2.11 on August 26 and climbed again to $2.93 in the early hours of August 28 — three swings of roughly 30-40% in six days, none of which came close to retesting the peak. When the replay ends, the price is about $2.74, still nearly double where it was ten days earlier. It has since drifted back to around $2.05.
The episode shows the classic features of a blow-off top — acceleration, an explosion in volume, a peak that lasts minutes and a close far below it — which we look at in more detail in a separate guide. It also shows why the aftermath is so hard to trade: after a move like this, the late buyers and the traders who shorted the top can both be proven wrong within the same day.
