Korea's Two-Day Rebound: +9% on the EWY Token (October 2026)

The tokenised iShares MSCI South Korea ETF rose 9.2% between October 26 and 28, 2026, as the Kospi bounced from its lowest close since April. It went from $149.73 to $163.50: a GDP beat started it and SK Hynix's record quarter extended it. Replay two Seoul sessions from the other side of the world.

On Monday, October 26, the Kospi closed at 5,469.47, down 1.46% and at its lowest level since April 6, more than 35% below its June peak. EWYB, the Binance token that tracks the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF, spent that Seoul session drifting between about $150 and $152 and touched its low of $149.73 in the 08:00 UTC hour. The turn came from New York, not Seoul: a filing for Anthropic's IPO lifted the Philadelphia semiconductor index 2.82% on Monday, and the token rose 1.53% in the 14:00 UTC hour and reached $154.12 by 17:00.

Tuesday's Seoul session is the first block of activity in the chart. The 23:00 UTC hour on Monday, just before Korea opened, traded $241,000 in 3,290 trades, the busiest of the replay so far, and the Kospi opened 3.46% higher at 5,658.65. The Bank of Korea's advance estimate put third-quarter growth at 1.0%, against a 0.7% forecast, with exports up 2.3% on chips. At 10:13 a.m. local time, 01:13 UTC, the Korea Exchange triggered a buy-side sidecar after Kospi 200 futures held more than 5% higher, and the token's high of $157.60 came in that same hour. It then gave back 1.01% in the 02:00 hour as the index cooled; the Kospi closed at about 5,638, up 3.1%.

Wednesday was larger. SK Hynix reported a record quarter, with revenue of 104.6 trillion won and an operating margin of about 80%, and announced a quarterly dividend of 20,000 won a share, half of it a special payment linked to its Kioxia stake, plus 20 trillion won of new buybacks. The Kospi opened 2.23% higher at 5,763.85, and by 1:26 p.m. it was up 6.49% at 6,003.59, back above 6,000 for the first time since October 14, with SK Hynix up 10% and Samsung Electronics 8.5%, The Asia Business Daily reported. Foreign investors bought a net 1.07 trillion won and institutions 1.14 trillion, while individuals sold 2.2 trillion. On Binance the 00:00 UTC hour rose 1.96% to $161.28, the 03:00 hour traded $494,000, the most of the replay, and the high of $163.50 came at 05:00.

A US-listed ETF on Korean stocks trades while Seoul sleeps, and a token on that ETF trades while New York sleeps too, so this chart shows both halves of the rebound: the American chip rally that set it up and the Korean sessions that carried it. The pattern is visible in the volume, which rose sharply at each Seoul open and fell away in between. Whether a 9% bounce in a market trading at about four times forward earnings is a turn or a relief rally is a question two sessions cannot answer; Samsung Electronics reports on Thursday.
