Sonic's Afternoon Breakout: S +29% to Its Highest Since January (October 2026)

Sonic, the blockchain formerly known as Fantom, rose from $0.047 to $0.069 on October 11, 2026, on 14 times its usual volume, then held most of the gain overnight. Relive a breakout that built over five hours.

Sonic is a fast layer-1 blockchain launched as the successor to Fantom; holders could swap their FTM tokens for the new S token. Like many 2025 launches, S spent most of 2026 falling, and in late September it traded below $0.04. In early October it started to recover, closing at $0.04732 on October 10.

For the first twelve hours of October 11, S moved sideways between about $0.0463 and $0.0499, on less than $600,000 an hour. The build-up started at 12:00 UTC: +3.5%, then +0.6%, +4.9% at 14:00 UTC and +4.9% at 15:00 UTC, with volume rising from $0.45 million to $3.5 million. By then S was at $0.055, already up 16% for the day.

The breakout candle came at 16:00 UTC: +15.6% to $0.06382 on $7.6 million, the busiest hour of the day. The next three hours kept pushing, reaching $0.06901 at 19:00 UTC — S's highest price since January 28 and 49% above the morning low. Then the 20:00 UTC hour fell 8.5%, the first sign of profit-taking.

S closed the day at $0.06094, up 28.78%, on $39.2 million of volume. Watch the overnight hours at the end of the replay: S traded in a narrow $0.058-$0.063 band, holding almost all of the breakout. Compare that with Nervos's CKB the same day, which faded steadily after its spike. Holding gains through the quiet hours that follow a breakout is one of the more reliable signs that it wasn't just a one-off burst.
