NEAR's One-Hour Flush on the First Day of Q4 (October 2026)
NEAR Protocol started October 1, 2026 by climbing to $5.54. By the afternoon, a single hour of heavy selling had taken it to $4.74. Relive the 9.9% down day fifteen minutes at a time.
NEAR Protocol entered October as one of the best performers in crypto: up about 178% in September, and roughly tripled over the third quarter. The first morning of the new quarter looked like more of the same. From $5.34 at midnight UTC, NEAR climbed through the Asian session and touched $5.54 in the 06:00 UTC hour.
The turn was gradual at first. Through the European morning NEAR drifted lower, losing about 8% to around $5.09 by 13:00 UTC on unremarkable volume. Then came the hour that defined the day. Between 13:00 and 14:00 UTC, price fell from $5.093 to a low of $4.742 before closing the hour at $4.959. About $41.9 million traded in that single hour — more than four times the average hour that day.
There was no V-shaped recovery. Repeated attempts to climb back toward $4.95 stalled through the US session, and NEAR closed the day at $4.809, down 9.9% and one of the three worst large coins of October 1. One level held, though: the $4.55 low from September 29, which analysts had been watching as the last higher low of the September uptrend, was never reached. Early on October 2 NEAR bounced back above $5.
Watch the sequence: a morning high on light volume, a slow fade, then one concentrated burst of selling that does most of the day's damage in sixty minutes. On a daily chart it's simply a big red candle; at fifteen-minute resolution you can see exactly when the selling arrived.
