Jito's Chaotic Launch Week (December 2023)
Jito's JTO token swung wildly in its first two weeks of trading — spiking, climbing further, then giving nearly all of it back — one of the more volatile large-airdrop debuts on record.
Jito is a Solana-based liquid staking and MEV (maximal extractable value) infrastructure protocol. It launched its JTO governance token on December 7, 2023, distributing one of that period's largest airdrops to Solana ecosystem users, arriving during a period when Solana-based tokens broadly were drawing intense speculative interest.
The opening minutes were chaotic even by the standards of major launches: JTO's earliest trades printed as high as $4.94 against a $0.15 reference price, before settling to a close near $2.39 by the end of the first day — already one of the largest first-day ranges covered in this replay collection.
Unlike most large airdrops, which typically peak on day one and decline afterward, JTO kept climbing for two more days, reaching an intraday high near $4.45 on December 9 — a further gain of roughly 86% from the first-day close — before reversing into a steady decline that brought it down to a low near $2.22 by December 18, giving back most of that second peak.
JTO's first two weeks illustrate a genuinely different pattern from the more common "spike, then grind lower" seen in most other airdrop launches covered elsewhere on this site — instead of one clean peak, the price found two, separated by several days, before settling into its actual post-launch trading range. Large, unpredictable swings like this are exactly why "airdrop launch" alone doesn't predict a single, reliable price pattern.
