Internet Computer (ICP): The Quiet Range Breakout (September 2026)

After more than a week stuck between $3.02 and $3.20, on September 29, 2026 ICP rose 9.7% on doubled volume to $3.55 — its highest since January. Relive a textbook range breakout, hour by hour.

Not every breakout is loud. For most of the second half of September 2026, Internet Computer traded inside a narrow band, roughly between $3.02 and $3.20. Little volatility, little attention — the kind of sideways consolidation most traders ignore until it resolves.

It resolved on September 29. ICP rose 9.7% and touched $3.554 intraday, its highest level since January, before settling around $3.44. Volume roughly doubled, to about $30 million — exactly the confirmation a range breakout is supposed to carry. And, as with Aave that same day, the move came against a broadly negative market, a mark of relative strength.

A clean break above a well-defined range, on expanding volume, against the direction of its peers, is close to the ideal version of the pattern — which is precisely why the follow-through matters most. The level to watch becomes the old range ceiling, near $3.20: a breakout that holds tends to turn its old resistance into support, while one that slips back inside the range is the more common outcome, and the reason experienced traders wait for the retest rather than chasing the first candle. On this hourly chart you can see both phases: the coil and the break.
