Gitcoin's 52% Sunday and the 28% Drop That Followed (October 2026)
Gitcoin's GTC token rose 52.6% on October 4, 2026, then spiked to $0.2449 early on October 5 — its highest in a year — before falling 28.5% in about two hours. Relive both legs hour by hour.
Gitcoin funds open-source and public-goods projects in the Ethereum ecosystem through its Grants program, and its GTC token had been one of 2026's quieter names. It set a yearly low of $0.064 on June 30 and was still near $0.086 at the end of September. Then, in early October, it woke up: a 53.4% gain on October 1, a spike to $0.184 on October 2, and a slide to $0.1148 by the close of October 3. The replay starts in that lull.
Sunday, October 4, began quietly, with GTC drifting between $0.113 and $0.129 through the morning on modest volume. The real move began in the 16:00 UTC hour, when price jumped from $0.1215 to $0.1647 on $1.9 million of volume. Buyers kept coming through the evening, and a second push in the 22:00 UTC hour set the day's high at $0.18397. GTC closed at $0.17524, up 52.6%, on $11.6 million of volume — about eight times its 30-day average.
The third leg came at the start of Monday. In the 00:00 UTC hour alone GTC traded $4.25 million — its busiest hour of the whole run — as price ran from $0.175 to $0.237. It peaked at $0.2449 in the 02:00 UTC hour, its highest since mid-October 2025, and then gave way: by the close of that hour it was at $0.1945, and in the 03:00 UTC hour it touched $0.175, 28.5% below the peak and right back at Sunday's close.
Watch how the character of the candles changes as the run matures. Sunday's advance is built from a series of hours that close near their highs; Monday's peak comes on a candle with a very long upper wick, the classic sign that late buyers met heavy selling. Notice too where the drop stops — almost exactly at the previous day's close, a level that turned into the first real test of whether the rally had any foundation.
