Ether Loses Its $2,600 Floor: A 7% Slide in Two Steps (October 2026)

Ether dropped from about $2,700 to $2,538 between the night of October 6 and the evening of October 7, 2026, breaking a level that had held for more than two weeks. Relive one sharp overnight drop followed by a slow grind lower.

From September 21 to October 6, 2026, ether traded in a range of roughly $2,600 to $2,800. Every daily low in that period held above $2,600, and on October 6 ETH closed at $2,697.49, near the middle of the range, while US stocks were setting records.

The first step down came in the early hours of October 7. The 01:00 UTC hour fell 1.5% to $2,657.58, and the 02:00 UTC hour extended to $2,591.71 on $190.6 million of volume, by far the busiest hour of the replay. Bitcoin fell at the same time, to $83,577. ETH bounced to about $2,620 and spent the European morning there.

The second step was slower and in some ways more telling. There was no single big candle: from 08:00 UTC, ETH lost a fraction of a percent almost every hour, slipping to $2,565 at 10:00 UTC, $2,552 at 13:00 UTC and finally $2,538.06 in the 17:00 UTC hour, its lowest price since September 18. It closed the day at $2,574.14, down 4.57% and at its lowest close since September 17. Overnight it traded between about $2,545 and $2,587.

Notice the difference between the two halves. The overnight drop looked like forced selling — a burst of volume and then stabilisation. The daytime slide happened on normal volume, with buyers failing to lift the price back above the old floor. When a broken support level stops attracting buyers, it often starts to act as resistance; whether $2,600 does so here is what the following days decide.
