Ethena's Explosive Launch Rally (April 2024)

Ethena's ENA token climbed roughly 96% in just nine days after launch, as the market embraced its "synthetic dollar" yield mechanism at the height of that spring's points-farming mania.

Ethena is a protocol built around a "synthetic dollar" (USDe) that aims to generate yield through a delta-neutral hedging strategy rather than through the direct bank-deposit backing used by traditional stablecoins. It launched its ENA governance token on April 2, 2024, capping off months of "points farming" — a program that rewarded early depositors with points redeemable for a future token allocation, a mechanic that had built substantial anticipation ahead of the actual token launch.

The opening minutes were chaotic even by the standards of major launches: ENA's earliest trades printed as high as $0.913 against a $0.30 reference price, before settling to a close near $0.775 by the end of the first day.

From that first-day close, ENA climbed steadily over the following nine days to a peak near $1.523 by April 11 — a gain of roughly 96% — before giving back a meaningful share of that spike over the following week as the initial points-farming enthusiasm cooled.

The rally arrived at a moment when "points" programs across DeFi were drawing intense speculative interest — Ethena's specific yield mechanism gave it a distinct technical story, but the broader points-farming mania that had built up ahead of the launch was almost certainly doing a meaningful share of the work behind the initial spike, a dynamic worth keeping in mind whenever a token launch follows a long, hyped-up point-accumulation period.
