CertiK's Strange Day: 261 Times Normal Volume and a Spike That Didn't Hold (October 2026)

On October 12, 2026, CertiK's CTK token traded about 261 times its usual daily volume, spiking 62% in fifteen minutes and then again in the US afternoon, yet it closed the day 5% lower. Relive a day where huge volume didn't mean a lasting move.

CertiK is a blockchain security firm best known for auditing smart contracts, and CTK is the token of its Shentu chain. In the days before this replay it traded quietly around $0.12-$0.13, on volume of well under $1 million a day.

The morning of October 12 already looked unusual: CTK fell 6.5% in the 09:00 UTC hour and another 6.8% at 11:00 UTC, to about $0.113, on several million dollars of volume — far more than a normal day. Then, in the 12:00 UTC fifteen-minute candle, it jumped 62% to $0.195. The very next candle, at 12:15 UTC, fell 22% on even higher volume ($2.1 million), leaving a needle-like spike on the chart.

A second wave came in the US afternoon. CTK climbed back from about $0.13 to nearly $0.19 between 14:00 and 16:00 UTC, with the 15:00 UTC fifteen-minute candle up 16%. That rally also faded: by the evening CTK was back below $0.143 and still falling, and it closed the day at $0.1256, down 5.21%, on $36.7 million of volume — about 261 times its 30-day average.

This replay is a useful counterexample. Extreme relative volume is often read as a sign that something big is starting. Here, it produced two spikes and a lower close. Without follow-through — prices holding above the spike area in the hours afterwards — volume alone says that many people traded, not which way the price will go next.
