Bitcoin Ended the Week Where It Started. The Median Token Fell. Ten Gained Over 20%

From September 27 to October 3, BTC rose 0.3% and ETH slipped 0.1%, but the week's story was in the tails: Moonriver, The Sandbox, Moonbeam, Starknet and Pump.fun all surged while gold and the euro kept sliding.

If you only looked at bitcoin, this week was a non-event. BTC closed Sunday, September 27 at $84,472 and Saturday, October 3 at $84,753.56, a gain of 0.3% — despite a run at $87,220 on Friday and a dip to $82,563 on Monday along the way. Ether was flat, down 0.1% at $2,687, and Solana lost 1.9%. The large caps went sideways together.

Underneath, the market was anything but calm. Of the 139 most-traded tokens on Binance that we checked, 61 rose over the week and the median one fell 1.2%, yet ten gained more than 20%. Moonriver led at +80%, despite its 35% crash on Friday, followed by NIGHT (+76%), The Sandbox (+65%) and Moonbeam (+59%). Starknet added 29%, including a 26% jump on Saturday that began with a single hour of buying at 15:00 UTC and lifted STRK to its highest close since May. Pump.fun's PUMP rose 22% to $0.00627, its highest close since October 2025 and more than five times its June low. LayerZero gained 21%.

The losers were a mix of fading earlier winners and quieter decliners. Quant, which had led the market with a sixfold run in late September, gave back 10% on the week; Zcash fell 18%, Ondo 15%, and 2Z was the weakest of the group at -33%. Several layer-2 tokens that had rallied earlier in September, including Arbitrum and Optimism, lost around 9-11%. Money was rotating fast, and mostly within the small-cap end of the market.

Outside crypto the direction was more uniform: the dollar was firm. Tokenized gold lost 2.6% to $4,148 after breaking below $4,200 on Monday, EUR/USD slipped 1.2% to its lowest close since May 2025, and the dollar gained about 2.4% against the Mexican peso. When big caps are flat, breadth is negative and a handful of thinly traded tokens produce most of the excitement, the market is usually telling you that speculation is concentrated rather than broad — which tends to make individual moves more fragile, in both directions.
