The Graph Rose 30% on a Sunday Evening. By Wednesday It Was Back Where It Started

GRT jumped from $0.0284 to $0.0367 in about seven hours on September 27, on hourly volume dozens of times the day's earlier pace. Four days later the gain was gone.

For most of Sunday, September 27, The Graph's GRT token barely moved. It traded between $0.0271 and $0.0288, and many hours saw less than $100,000 of volume on Binance. Then, from around 17:00 UTC, it began to climb. The 19:00 UTC hour alone took it from about $0.0308 to $0.0332 on roughly $2 million of volume, and the rise continued until the final hour of the day, when GRT touched $0.0367. It closed the day at $0.03597, up 30.3%, on $8.6 million of daily volume — roughly three to eight times a normal September day.

The unwind began almost immediately. GRT fell 15% on Monday, September 28, to $0.03057, and kept drifting lower through the week. By the October 1 close it was at $0.02809 — less than 2% above where it had opened on Sunday. Measured from Sunday morning to Wednesday night, the week was almost flat. For anyone who bought near Sunday's highs, it was a loss of more than 20%.

Weekend timing explains much of the shape. Crypto trades around the clock, but the order books are noticeably thinner on Saturdays and Sundays, when many desks are offline. Volume that would barely register on a Wednesday can move the price dramatically when it arrives on a Sunday evening, and the same thinness means there is little underneath once the buying stops.

It's a pattern worth recognising rather than predicting. A sharp weekend move in a smaller token, on volume that is large only relative to a near-empty order book, has a meaningfully higher chance of retracing once weekday liquidity returns. It doesn't always happen — but when it does, it tends to look exactly like this.
