The Gaming-Token Rally Is Running Out of Buyers. The Sandbox Is 22% Off Its Peak
SAND fell 8.4% on October 5 and kept slipping on Tuesday, to about $0.0657 — 22% below its October 3 high. Daily volume has dropped by more than two-thirds since the peak, and Axie Infinity and Beam are fading too.
A week ago, gaming tokens were the hottest corner of the crypto market. The Sandbox's SAND jumped 53.5% on October 2, Decentraland, Gala and Axie Infinity spiked in the same hour, and two days later a second wave lifted Beam and Axie Infinity. Since then, the momentum has drained away. SAND fell 8.36% on Monday, October 5, to $0.06981, and early on Tuesday it was trading around $0.0657.
That's about 22% below the peak of $0.08396 reached in the 05:00 UTC hour on October 3. The decline hasn't been a crash so much as a steady leak: SAND lost about 6% in two hours on the morning of October 3, chopped sideways on October 4, and on Monday slipped in a series of 3% hourly drops in the Asian session and again in the US afternoon. The more telling number is volume. SAND traded $63.5 million on October 2 and $59.4 million on October 3; by October 4 that had fallen to $26.7 million, and on Monday to $18.4 million. Prices that fall on shrinking volume suggest buyers stepping away rather than sellers panicking.
The second-wave tokens are fading in the same way. Axie Infinity's AXS, which rose 13.4% on Sunday to a high of $1.456, lost 4.9% on Monday to close at $1.293 and was near $1.30 on Tuesday morning. Beam's BEAMX, which spiked 27% in a single hour on Sunday, closed Monday at $0.002521, about 17% below its high. Decentraland's MANA and Immutable's IMX held roughly flat. Meanwhile the speculative money that drives these moves seems to have found a new target: on Monday, iExec's RLC doubled and Radworks' RAD rose 31%.
None of this erases the rally. Even after the pullback, SAND is still roughly double its September 15 close of $0.03345. But it is a good illustration of how sector rotations usually end: not with a single collapse, but with the leaders failing to make new highs while the most active traders move on to the next theme. Our Axie Infinity setup from October 5 is still above its $1.198 invalidation level, but well below the $1.456 high that would have confirmed it — a reminder that second-wave moves in a sector are often the least durable.
