Gitcoin's GTC Jumped 137% in Fifteen Minutes — Its Fourth Spike in Two Weeks

GTC went from $0.166 to $0.393 in the 10:00 UTC candle on October 12, its highest price since August 2025, and closed up 55.32% at $0.2816. By early October 13 it had slipped back to about $0.24.

Gitcoin's GTC token has become a regular in this month's list of unusual moves. On Monday, October 12, it produced the most extreme one so far.

For most of the morning, GTC traded quietly around $0.165, with fifteen-minute candles trading barely $10,000. Then, in the 10:00 UTC candle, it jumped from $0.1658 to as high as $0.393 — 137% in fifteen minutes — on $4.8 million of volume, before closing the candle at $0.3405. That was GTC's highest price since August 2025. The next hour gave some of it back, and GTC spent the afternoon between about $0.27 and $0.34.

It closed the day at $0.28162, up 55.32%, on $23.9 million of volume and at its highest close since October 8, 2025. Early on Tuesday it slipped to about $0.24, after a 15.9% drop in the midnight hour.

This was the fourth sharp spike in GTC in two weeks, after similar moves on October 2, October 5 and October 7. Each one has followed the same script: a near-vertical burst on a sudden jump in volume, followed by a fade over the next day or two. Gitcoin funds open-source software through community grants, but we didn't find an announcement that explains any of the four moves.
