Ethereum Layer-2 Total Value Locked Hits a New Record
The combined value held across Ethereum's Layer-2 scaling networks just topped its previous high — a milestone that arrived quietly, without a single headline-driving catalyst.
Total value locked (TVL) across Ethereum's major Layer-2 networks — the combined dollar value of assets deposited into their smart contracts — climbed to a new all-time high this week, surpassing the previous record set earlier this year.
The growth has been gradual rather than a single dramatic spike, consistent with the broader trend already visible in falling base-layer gas fees: activity that used to run directly on Ethereum's base layer, or that's new to the ecosystem entirely, keeps migrating to (or launching directly on) cheaper Layer-2 networks instead.
TVL is a useful but imperfect gauge — it reflects deposited capital, not necessarily active usage, and the same capital can sometimes be double-counted across networks that bridge assets between each other. Still, a new record after a period of falling fees and rising transaction counts paints a fairly coherent picture of genuine growth rather than one metric moving in isolation.
Comparing how different Layer-2 assets have actually performed alongside this growth — rather than assuming rising TVL automatically means rising token prices, which it doesn't always — is worth testing directly on Trade2Spike's crypto markets.
