Bitcoin's Second Hourly Spike in Three Days Came Within 0.6% of Its Q3 High

At 04:00 UTC on October 2, bitcoin jumped to $86,913 on roughly $231 million of hourly volume — echoing the September 30 spike that faded within hours.

Bitcoin is developing a habit. On September 30 it jumped about $1,600 in an hour, reached $85,650 and gave it all back by the daily close. On October 1 it rose more gradually, closing at $84,880, up 1.5%. Then, in the 04:00 UTC hour on Friday, October 2, it jumped again — from about $85,500 to a high of $86,912.75, on roughly $231 million of Binance spot volume, around four times the average hour of the previous day.

That high sits about 0.6% below $87,396, the top of the third quarter. By 06:00 UTC bitcoin had eased to around $86,080, which leaves the picture ambiguous: a higher spike than Tuesday's, and holding better so far, but still a sharp, volume-heavy push that partly reversed within the hour.

Two spikes into the same zone in three days are information in themselves. They show buyers willing to pay up quickly between $85,000 and $87,000, and sellers waiting there to meet them. A daily close above the Q3 high would settle that standoff in the buyers' favor; another fade back toward $84,000 would make the zone look like a ceiling. Until one of those happens, the accurate description is a market testing a level, not breaking it.
